Workshops

The Eden Area AJCC offers workshops on a daily basis. The workshops are designed to equip job seekers with the tools needed in their job search.  Job seekers can sign up for any of the workshops at the career center. Below are the following workshops that we offered at the career center. 
 

Basic Computer Training

The four weeks hands-on Basic Computer Training workshop will teach job seekers the basics of using a computer, word processing, file management, E-mail, and how to navigate through the Internet. Job seekers are encouraged to attend all of the sessions to get the benefit of the workshop, but they can choose any of the sessions based on their needs.

Eden Area AJCC and WIOA Orientation

The Eden Area AJCC and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program orientation provides a comprehensive overview and specific details of the Eden Area AJCC  and WIOA program, including the resources and benefits offered to universal and potential WIOA job seekers. This overview provides the necessary steps job seekers will take to enroll in the WIOA program, and eventually receive individualized services. 

Resume and Interviewing Combo

The Resume & Interviewing Combo workshop is divided into two sessions. The first session will teach job seekers how to develop an effective resume that attracts an employer’s attention. Job seekers will learn about the different resume formats, resume outline, action words, how to overcome gaps of employment, how to highlight key strengths, common rules and resume mistakes, etc. The second session will teach job seekers how to prepare for an interview, learn the different types of interviewing questions, common interview mistakes, techniques to help job seekers lands the job, etc.
Job Searching on CalJOBS
The Job Searching on Caljobs Workshop takes job seekers through a step-by-step introduction to the essential job search functionalities within the CalJOBS system. Job seekers will learn how to navigate the job search portion of CalJOBS through an in-depth explanation of each tailored job search option offered by the system. Based on needs, job seekers will learn how to conduct and determine the appropriate job search techniques, how to interpret and utilize job search results and how to apply for positions directly through CalJOBS. By the end of the workshop, job seekers should be equipped to start their own job search on CalJOBS.
My Next Move
My Next Move is a career exploration tool that offers career suggestions based on the job seekers’ interests and level of work experience. This assessment will help job seekers understand themselves a little more and help guide them to a career that might interest them. The facilitator will provide step-by-step instructions on how to navigate through the assessment tool and to interpret the assessment results.
